Camera.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 now features an upgraded 50MP main camera paired with a 12MP ultrawide lens. The former is a huge step up from the Z Flip 5’s 12MP camera, but it’s made better because of how the Galaxy Z Flip 6 leverages pixel binning to offer a reasonable 2x zoom with optical-like quality. This is the smarter way of approaching the cameras, seeing that it effectively offers the range in most triple camera setups, but with a more compact dual camera arrangement instead.
While the Galaxy Z Fold6’s camera housing received a sleek redesign, the sensor upgrades themselves are fairly modest. The phone retains the 50MP main and 10MP 3x optical zoom cameras from the previous model. The only significant improvement is the upgraded 12MP ultrawide sensor, borrowed from the S24 line. This new sensor boasts better low-light performance and improved focusing speed. Fortunately, Samsung’s ProVision software advancements should contribute to overall photographic improvements as well.
Performance.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is powered by the same chip used in Samsung’s flagship phones: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Animations and navigating around the interface are ultra-responsive and the phone can generate some of the AI-generated portrait photos.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 holds its own when it comes to performance. When tested with a demanding game, Asphalt 9, it delivered silky smooth visuals even during intense racing sequences. Even with sparks flying from jumps and crashes, the frame rates stayed impressive. Multitasking is also a breeze on the Fold 6.
Security and Privacy.
Security remains a top priority for Samsung with the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. Protected by Samsung Knox, a multi-layered defense system, these phones shield your data with end-to-end hardware protection, real-time threat detection, and collaborative security. Display and Visuals.
The main display of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, looks delightful thanks to the luscious colors it produces along with its wide viewing angles, and can reach a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 boasts significantly improved displays. The cover screen features a minimized bezel for a larger viewing experience without increasing the phone’s width. The main AMOLED display is even more impressive, offering a peak brightness of 2,600 nits (up from 1,700 nits on the Z Fold 5) and a smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Samsung has also incorporated additional software controls, including vibrancy adjustments similar to those found on the S24 line.
Design and Colors.
On the surface, it doesn’t look like much has changed with the design of the Galaxy Z Flip 6. It’s still incredibly compact when closed and constructed from aluminum to give it a solid feel. The size and design of the FlexWindow also looks identical to last year, complete with that fin cutout on the bottom right where the display meets the cameras.
However, I have to say that the design’s elevated by the new pastel-like color options that the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is available in. The outlines of the camera lenses are also accented by the same paint job, giving the phone a much more pleasing contrast. Samsung has also increased the Flip 6’s durability with a new dual rail hinge design, giving the Flip a more responsive feel whenever I close it, with the crease in the middle of the phone being considerably softer looking than its predecessor’s.
While the design changes themselves might be considered minor, the overall effect is quite impactful. The new colorways, coupled with the improved hinge and reduced crease, make the Z Flip6 a strong competitor in the foldable phone market.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is the sleek successor to the Z Fold 5, shedding some of its bulk while maintaining its durability. Imagine the Z Fold 5 on a health kick – that’s the Z Fold 6! It’s trimmer in every way, boasting a slimmer profile when folded (6.04 x 2.68 x 0.48 inches) compared to the Z Fold 5’s (6.1 x 2.64 x 0.53 inches). Even unfolded, the Z Fold 6 is noticeably thinner (6.04 x 5.22 x 0.22 inches) than its predecessor (6.1 x 5.11 x 0.24 inches). Despite this slim down, Samsung assures users that durability hasn’t been compromised.
